“I think globalization is a term that is abused. In the Japanese translation, it means globalism, that gives the idea of some “united world of equality.” With time, I have realized the meaning can be quite diverse. So, in an ironic way, my Global-Store Project aims to embody the first impression of globalization.
There are small shops in every city, and their customers are often people living in the neighborhood. Their way-of-life is quite different from the multi-national hamburger or fried chicken companies, the work of which is nothing but the advertisement. In the light of my respect for the small shops, my project is the attempt to globally promote them.
To do so, I take pictures of these stores. Each store, I take from 150 to 300 pictures, that are later edited and assembled by digital technologies. With these materials, I manufacture three-dimensional models of the stores, little three-dimensional monuments that, since made of bidimensional images, I call 2.5D photography.”
